Net trade balance at SEK 2.6 billion in March

In March 2018, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 122.1 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 119.5 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 2.6 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 2.6 billion in March 2018, according to preliminary calculations. In March 2017, the trade deficit was SEK 0.5 billion.
The value of exports in March 2018 was SEK 122.1 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 119.5 billion. Compared with March 2017, exports increased by 3 percent in value, while imports remained unchanged in percentage terms.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 15.9 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 13.3 billion.
The number of weekdays in March 2018 was two more than in March 2017.
Seasonally adjusted, the net trade surplus amounted to SEK 0.3 billion in both March and February 2018. The corresponding figure for January 2018 was a surplus of SEK 0.5 billion.
Net trade (Jan–Mar 2018) showed a deficit of SEK 2.1 billion
During the last three-month period, the value of both exports and imports of goods increased by 7 percent compared with the corresponding period one year ago. Exports amounted to SEK 345.6 billion and imports were valued at SEK 347.7 billion, resulting in a deficit net trade balance of SEK 2.1 billion for January–March 2018. The corresponding deficit for these months one year earlier was SEK 0.8 billion.

Definitions and explanations
Last month’s import and export values in trade with the EU are estimates based on data provided by a large subset of companies that trade with the EU. Most (95 percent) of the deviation between these estimates and the subsequent outcome lies within the range of SEK -2 billion and SEK 1 billion for both imports and exports.
Import and export values for trade in goods with non-EU countries are based largely on data from Swedish Customs.
