New cars increased by 1.7 percent

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden and Transport Analysis 2017-03-02 9.30

During February 2017 a total of 28 484 passenger cars were newly registered, an increase of 1.7 percent compared to February last year. This is according to Transport Analysis monthly official statistics on newly registered vehicles.

Diesel cars made up 53.3 percent of the new registrations, a decrease of 1.9 percentage points compared to February last year. Passenger cars that can be powered by electricity, ethanol or gas made up 10.1 percent of the new registrations, compared to 7.6 percent during February 2016.

67 percent of the cars were registered by businesses and organisations, of which businesses in the car retail trade accounted for 30 percent of total new registrations. Of the cars registered by private persons, men accounted for 65 percent and women for the remaining 35 percent.

Of the newly registered cars 27 934 were of model year 2015 - 2017 and 550 were older models. During the month 18 502 passenger cars were deregistered, which means that the total passenger car fleet increased by 9 982 vehicles.

New registrations of lorries decreased by 7.3 percent in January compared with same month last year, it’s the first decrease since January 2015. However the total of new registration during 2017 of lorries has increased with 6 percent compared with the same period last year.
Tractor and mopeds class 1 increased their new registration, all other vehicle types decreased their new registrations compared with same month last year.

Transport Analysis is the government agency responsible for the statistics and Statistics Sweden has produced the statistics at its request. For detailed information on new registrations, please see "Monthly vehicle statistics" available on the Transport Analysis website or Statistics Sweden's website.

The new registrations contain all vehicles during the month, that has entered into the register. These registrations differs from the new registrations in BIL Sweden:s reports. BIL Sweden's data only contains data for cars with the last three model years, as well as those that are not directly imported.
