MONA – a system for delivering microdata

MONA (Microdata Online Access) is Statistics Sweden’s standard tool for delivering microdata. Users who receive deliveries via MONA can process the data over an internet connection without microdata ever leaving Statistics Sweden.

Get started with MONA

The Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act protects data concerning individual respondents (microdata). However, it is possible to apply for access to data for research or statistical purposes. When a request for data is granted, access to MONA may be provided to enable the data delivery.

MONA users work in a Windows environment via a remote connection. Microdata is displayed on the computer screen and can be processed using statistical software available in MONA. Results can be retrieved to your own computer, but the processed microdata is stored in MONA. Without explicit permission from Statistics Sweden, users may not retrieve microdata from MONA, that is, any non-aggregated data referring to a single object. Objects include, but are not limited to persons, businesses, local units, and schools.

All users must sign the terms of use and commit to follow the rules that apply in MONA.
