Research and development beyond official statistics
This report looks at R&D that falls outside the scope of the official statistics. By using data on the tax reduction for R&D personnel, expenditures on intramural R&D in micro enterprises can be estimated to around SEK 2.2 billion in 2021. At the same time, time-use data for employees in higher education institutions show that the R&D performed by the personnel while working overtime corresponded to about 2 800 full-time equivalents in 2021. If this would have been included in the official statistics it would amount to an increase of about 14 percent.
