  • Subdued labour market

    In October 2024, the number of employed people amounted to 5 192 000, not seasonally adjusted. The average number of hours worked per week was 175.8 million. The number of unemployed people was 438 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 7.8 percent. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show a decrease in the share of employed, and an increase in the number and share of unemployed people. The seasonally adjusted and smoothed unemployment rate was 8.5 percent.

  • Unemployment increased during the third quarter

    In the third quarter of 2024, the number of employed people amounted to 5 311 000, not seasonally adjusted. The average number of hours worked per week amounted to 137.4 million hours. In calendar adjusted figures, this corresponds to a decrease of 1.8 percent compared to the third quarter 2023. There were 459 000 unemployed people, which was an increase of 41 000 people. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 8.0 percent, an increase of 0.8 percentage points. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in both the share and the number of unemployed. This corresponds to an unemployment rate of 8.5 percent.

  • The labour market remained subdued

    In September 2024, the number of employed people amounted to 5 220 000, not seasonally adjusted. The number of unemployed people was 468 000, corresponding to an unemployment rate of 8.2 percent. The average number of hours worked per week was 173.3 million. According to seasonally adjusted and smoothed data, the employment rate was 69.0 percent. Seasonally adjusted and smoothed data show an increase in both the number of unemployed people and in the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate was 8.5 percent.
