Large Increase in the Number of Nominated Candidates in the Swedish EU Election

At the beginning of June, 21 Swedish candidates were elected to the European Parliament. All Swedish political parties in the Riksdag were represented and 13 women and 8 men were elected. Just over 1 300 candidates were nominated for the European Parliament, which is the highest number ever in a Swedish EU election.

These latest statistics on the 2024 Swedish elections to the European Parliament present the nominated and elected candidates by political party, sex, age, income, education and country of birth. Corresponding statistics on the voting population are published at the same time. Taken together, these statistics can describe representativeness among the nominated and elected candidates in the European Parliament elections.
