Lower Swedish voter turnout in the EU election and clear regional differences

The Swedish voter turnout in the 2024 EU election decreased by two percent points but was slightly higher than the EU average. There is a 40-percentage point difference between the municipality with the highest turnout and the lowest turnout. Voter turnout decreased the most in Municipalities who held local referendums in the previous election in 2019.

The Swedish election to the European parliament was held on June 9th. Statistics Sweden is publishing results from the election regarding those entitled to vote, voter turnout, as well as votes and seats distributed by political parties.
