The percentage of persons at persistent risk of poverty has increased somewhat in recent years. Among Sweden’s population in 2020, just under 15 percent were at risk of poverty. Nearly two thirds of those people were at persistent risk of poverty.
Since 2014, the at-risk-of-poverty rate has increased by 0.5 percentage points, from 14.2 to 14.7 percent. During the same period, the persistent at-risk-of-poverty rate increased by 0.8 percentage points, from 8.0 to 8.8 percent. This means that they were at risk of poverty in the current year and during at least two of the three preceding years.

Definitions and explanations
At risk of poverty: The at-risk-of-poverty-rate is the share of people with an equivalised disposable income below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold, which is set at 60 % of the national median equivalised disposable income.
Persistent at risk of poverty: The persistent at-risk-of-poverty rate shows the percentage of the population living in households where the equivalised disposable income was below the at-risk-of-poverty threshold during the reference year and at least two out of the preceding three years.
