Net trade balance at SEK 11.1 billion in January

In January 2023, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 172.6 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 161.5 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 11.1 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 11.1 billion in January 2023, according to preliminary calculations. In January 2022, there was a net trade deficit of SEK 1.1 billion.
The value of exports in January 2023 was SEK 172.6 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 161.5 billion. The corresponding values for January 2022 were SEK 141.3 billion for exports and SEK 142.4 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus increased by 22 percent in value, and imports have increased by 13 percent in value compared with January 2022. The number of weekdays in January 2023 was one more compared with January 2022.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 18.3 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 7.2 billion.

Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 2.6 billion in January, compared with a surplus of SEK 1.0 billion in December. The corresponding figure for November was a deficit of SEK 1.1 billion.
Net trade (November 2022 – January 2023) showed a surplus of SEK 1.8 billion
In this period, the value of exports of goods increased by 19 percent and the value of imports of goods increased by 17 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 526.5 billion and imports were valued at SEK 524.7 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 1.8 billion for November 2022 - January 2023. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a deficit of SEK 6.3 billion.
