This statistical data covers real and cross-border financial transactions. Balance of payments is divided into the current account, the capital account and the financial account. The international investment position shows a country's total net debt.

Export and import figures may differ in Statistics Sweden’s various statistical products in the Balance of Payments and the National Accounts. Estimates of foreign trade in services published as part of the Balance of Payments and the National Accounts may differ from the values published in the survey on foreign trade in services.
Work is underway to increase the agreement between the financial parts of the Balance of Payments and the financial accounts.

Swedish holdings in foreign portfolio assets decreased in the second half of 2023. Total holdings amounted to SEK 8 888 billion, which was a decrease of 2 percent compared to the end of the first half of 2023. Holdings in funds accounted for the largest percentage decrease. Holding in shares and debt securities did also decrease, but no to the same extent as funds.
