Table potato production 9 percent higher than in 2021

The total production of table potatoes is estimated at 500 000 tonnes in 2022. This is 9 percent higher than in 2021. The total production in 2022 is on a par with the average in 2017–2021.
The yield per hectare, including new potatoes, is estimated at 33 500 kilos, which is 9 percent higher than in 2021. The crop area for table potatoes occupied 14 910 hectares. This is 30 hectares less than in the previous year and is the smallest crop area ever recorded in Sweden.
In Örebro County, total production of table potatoes was 29 percent more than last year. Production in Dalarna, Halland, Skåne and Östergötland County was between 12 percent and 7 percent higher than last year. In Västerbotten County production was 14 percent less than last year. In the remaining counties that reported results, the differences in harvest levels are within the margin of error.
Total production of starch potatoes was 5 percent less than last year
The total production of starch potatoes is estimated at 351 200 tonnes, which is 5 percent less than in 2021 but 8 percent more than the five-year average (2017-2021). These statistics include the production of starch potato for seed, which often have a lower yield potential.
The 2022 yield per hectare of starch potatoes is estimated at 41 340 kilos, which is on a par with both 2021 and the five-year average.
The estimated unharvested area of starch potatoes was 60 hectares. The highest unharvested regional area was in the Forest districts in Götaland with 30 hectares.
The cultivation area of starch potatoes decreased by 310 hectares compared with 2021 and occupied 8 500 hectares. Starch potatoes are cultivated mainly in Skåne County, Blekinge County, and Kalmar County.
