Low production decrease in the business sector in April

Production in the business sector decreased by 0.1 percent in seasonally adjusted figures in April compared with March. Compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, production in the business sector increased by 4.3 percent in calendar-adjusted figures.
The minor decrease in total production was attributable to the industry sector, which had a monthly decrease of 1.7 percent in April, in seasonally adjusted figures. The service sector remained unchanged and production in construction increased by 3.8 percent compared with the previous month.
In the three-month period from February to April 2017, production increased by 1.3 percent compared with the previous three-month period, November to January, in seasonally adjusted figures. Production in construction showed the strongest development, with an increase of 8.3 percent. Industrial production increased by 1.3 percent and the service sector increased by 0.5 percent.
In calendar-adjusted figures, production in the business sector increased by 4.3 percent in April compared with the corresponding month in the previous year. Construction had the strongest yearly development, with an increase of 19.7 percent, while industrial production had the weakest development, with an increase of 1.3 percent.
The figures for April are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in production in March compared with February has not been revised. The annual change in production, March compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, has been revised upwards with 1.0 percentage points to an increase of 5.2 percent.

Definitions and explanations
From December 2012, Statistics Sweden produces monthly statistics on production in the business sector. The statistics are compiled based on requests from users. They are an important indicator of the business cycle, as business production accounts for approximately 70 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP). These statistics should be seen as experimental until further notice.
Revisions
hen the Business Production Index for a new month is published, the index for previous months is also revised. This is mainly due to new and revised information that has been received. Working day adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are always revised from January 2000 onwards.
