Industrial production decreased in July

Industrial production decreased by 0.9 percent in July 2017 compared with June in seasonally adjusted figures. Compared with July 2016, industrial production increased by 5.3 percent in calendar-adjusted figures.
Among the industry sub-sectors, the largest increase compared with the previous month was seen in the textile industry, while the largest decrease was in the electronics industry. In the last three-month period, May to July 2017, industrial production increased by 1.9 percent compared with the previous three-month period, February to April 2017, in seasonally adjusted figures.
Compared with July in the previous year, industrial production increased by 5.3 percent in calendar-adjusted figures. On an annual basis, a majority of the industry’s sub-sectors showed a positive development. The strongest increase was seen in the petroleum industry.
The figures for July 2017 are preliminary. Since the previous publication, the change in industrial production in June compared with May has been revised upwards by 0.1 percentage points to an increase of 0.9 percent. The change in production in June compared with the corresponding month in the previous year has been revised upwards by 0.4 percentage points to an increase of 8.9 percent.
It is relevant to analyse the seasonal and calendar adjustments for a better understanding of the statistics.

Development of Index of Service Production
Revisions
When the Industrial Production Index for a new month is published, the indices for previous months are also revised. The material is normally revised for two to four months retroactively, depending on which month of the quarter is the reference month. The whole previous quarter is revised when publishing the first and second months of a quarter. Calendar adjusted figures, seasonally adjusted figures and trend figures are revised from January 2000 onwards.
