In 2015, one or more citizen dialogues were held in 75 percent of Swedish municipalities, an increase of 10 percentage points compared with 2011. The use of social media by municipalities also increased by 20 percentage points. However, the number of citizen councils for young people decreased.
About the statistics
Statistic Sweden now presents results of the survey on local democracy in municipalities and county councils. It is the fourth time that Statistic Sweden carries out this survey, once per term of office. The survey is sent to all 290 municipalities and 20 counties. In total, 276 municipalities and 18 counties took part. In addition to questions about democracy and possibilities for citizen participation, the survey included questions about governing parties, cooperation, information and services, etc.
