Costs for pre-school education continued to increase

nextThe total cost for the educational system increased by 6 percent during the period 2009–2013. Costs for pre-school education increased by 17 percent over the five-year period. During the same period the number of enrolled children increased by 10 percent.
Costs for tertiary education have increased by 7 percent since 2009. The number of full-time students decreased by 0.5 percent. Costs for upper secondary school decreased by 6 percent, while costs for compulsory school increased by 7 percent during that same period.
Comparisons are based on constant prices.

Costs per pupil in upper secondary school have risen 11.8 percent
Costs for a pupil in upper secondary school in 2013 amounted to SEK 109 900, an increase of 11.8 percent since 2009. Costs per pupil in compulsory school have increased by SEK 5 000 during the period 2009–2013 and amounted to SEK 95 000. This is an increase of 5.5 percent. Costs per student in tertiary education increased by 0.9 percent during the same period, amounting to SEK 73 000 in 2013.
Sweden in thirteenth place among OECD countries
The OECD average for education costs' share of GDP in 2011 was 6.1 percent. Among OECD countries, Denmark had the highest share, 7.9 percent. Iceland was in second place with 7.7 and Sweden came in thirteenth place with 6.3 percent.
