The cost per pupil continues to decrease

The cost per child in preschool and pupil in compulsory school continues to decrease since 2021. Moreover, the 2023 statistics show that the cost per pupil in upper secondary school is the lowest in tern years, since 2013.

The main findings are summarised below:

  • Preschool – The cost per child continues to decrease and is now the lowest since 2015.
  • Compulsory school – The cost per pupil has decreased for the second consecutive year and is now the lowest since 2016.
  • Upper secondary school – The total cost per pupil decreased by 3.5 percent compared to 2022 and is now the lowest since 2013.
  • Municipal adult education– The total cost continues to decrease, while the cost per pupil increased slightly.

The National Agency for Education annually publishes Costs for the school system and other educational activities, which includes statistics broken down by type of cost for primary and secondary schools.
