During the second quarter of 2023, the market value of insurance and occupational pension companies' investment assets increased to SEK 6,950 billion, up from SEK 6,762 billion at the end of the previous quarter. Compared to the second quarter of 2022, the market value has increased from SEK 6,358 billion. Starting from the second quarter of 2023, occupational pension companies are included in the publication together with life insurance companies. Data from the first quarter of 2021 has been revised to include occupational pension companies.
The quarter in brief
- In the second quarter of 2023, insurance and occupational pension companies' holdings in shares and participations increased from SEK 4,734 billion to SEK 4,943 billion, equivalent to an increase of 4.4 percent.
- The net transactions for shares and participations amounted to SEK -15.2 billion during the current quarter.
Life insurance and occupational pension companies
- Increase in repurchase agreements: Repurchase agreements increased from SEK 22.8 billion to SEK 33.4 billion, representing an increase of SEK 10.6 billion or 46% from the previous quarter.
- Decrease in other financial investments: Other financial investments decreased from SEK 65.5 billion to SEK 35.4 billion, a decrease of SEK 30.1 billion or 46% from the previous quarter.
- Decrease in derivatives: Derivatives decreased from SEK 21.9 billion to SEK 17.7 billion, a decrease of SEK 4.2 billion or 19% from the previous quarter.
Non-life insurance companies
- Increase in shares and participations: Shares and participations increased from SEK 364.7 billion to SEK 377.2 billion, an increase of SEK 12.5 billion or 3% from the previous quarter.
- Decrease in cash at bank and in hand: Cash at bank and in hand decreased from SEK 28.2 billion to SEK 25.5 billion, a decrease of SEK 2.7 billion or 10% from the previous quarter.
- Increase in loans: Loans increased from SEK 8.9 billion to SEK 9.7 billion, an increase of SEK 0.8 billion or 9% from the previous quarter.
