Increased borrowing in debt securities
At the end of January, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 739 billion, up by SEK 437 billion from December. This increase is mainly due to issuance by monetary financial institutions.
Developments in January 2025 in brief
Increased liabilities in both bonds and money market instruments
- At the end of January, total liabilities in debt securities amounted to SEK 9 739 billion, of which bonds accounted for 79 percent and money market instruments accounted for 21 percent.
- During the month, liabilities increased in both bonds and money market instrumenst by SEK 146 billion and SEK 291 billion respectively.
- The liabilities denominated in Swedish Crowns increased by a total of SEK 223 billion and liabilities denominated in foreign currencies by SEK 213 billion.
- The annual growth rate for total debt securities liabilities was 0.3 percent in January, the same level as December.
Increased borrowing by monetary financial institutions
- In January, monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest increase in debt securities, and increased their liabilities by SEK 272 billion.
- Sveriges Riksbank and the Government (through Swedish National Debt Office) also increased its liabilities by SEK 115 billion and SEK 43 billion respectively. The increase is mainly an effect of issuance.

Maturity structure
- Debt securities valued at SEK 1 745 billion will reach maturity within six months, excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank. 68 percent of these are denominated in foreign currency.
- Debt securities from monetary financial institutions accounted for 63 percent of the total maturity value within six months (excluding certificates issued by Sveriges Riksbank), of which the majority is issued in foreign currency.

Green debt securities
- Green debt securities amounted to SEK 908 billion in January, up by SEK 16 billion from December.
- Monetary financial institutions accounted for the largest increase in green debt securities during the month, with an increase of SEK 17 bilion.
- Monetary financial institutions are also the largest issuer of green debt securites, in total SEK 407 However, local government issue the largest share of green debt securities in relation to their total outstanding amount (34 percent).
