Statistics Sweden’s surveys on living conditions (ULF/SILC) show that three percent of Sweden's population 16 years and older have been subjected to violence at some time in the last 12 months. Five percent have been subjected to threats of violence or other threats that were so serious that they were frightened. The proportion subjected to threats or violence is roughly the same among women and among men.

The survey also shows that 15 percent of the population have some time in the last 12 months refrained from going out at night for fear of being assaulted or threatened. This is much more common among women than among men. Among women, 23 percent state that they have refrained from going out, compared with six percent among the men.

Overall, seven percent have been subjected to threats or violence at some time in the past year. One percent has been exposed to threats or violence in a home, either in their own home or in someone else’s home. Three percent have been subjected to threats or violence in a public place, such as in a train, bus, restaurant or street. Five percent of those who work have been subjected to threats or violence at work. Being subjected to threats or violence in a public place is more common among men, while being subjected to threats or violence at work is more common among women.

Other results of the 2016 Surveys on living conditions show that:

… Seven out of ten people use eyeglasses or contact lenses. In the age group 55 years and above, more than nine out of ten people use eyeglasses or contact lenses.

… Nearly half of the population socialise every week with a close relative (parent, child, or sibling) with whom they do not live together.

… One in three people rent their housing. Nearly half of those in the age group 25-34 years live in a rented dwelling.

… Two percent have financial difficulties that have involved late payment of instalments, credit card debts or loans in the last 12 months.

… Among employees in the age group 45-64 years, eight out of ten belong to a trade union or industry association, compared with slightly more than three out of ten among employees 16-24 years.

… One in five employees works in shifts or on a schedule in which working hours are scheduled during different times of the day.

… Half of those who work are in contact with work in their leisure time, via telephone or e-mail.
