Producer prices continued to rise in December 2017

Statistical news from Statistics Sweden 2018-01-25 9.30

Producer prices in total increased by 1.6 percent between November and December. In the same period, prices increased by 2.4 percent on the import market and by 2.0 percent on the export market, due to a depreciation of the Swedish krona. Prices increased by 1.1 percent on the domestic market.

Prices on domestic supply, that is, producer prices on the domestic and import markets together, increased by 1.8 percent from November to December.

Changes during the last month

On the domestic market, higher prices for district heating contributed to the increase. A weak krona has largely contributed to price increase on the import and export market. Higher prices for crude oil accounted for the largest contribution to the upturn on the import market in December. On the export market, several product groups, including Machinery and equipment, Paper and paperboard, Pulp and Motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers contributed to the increase.

Changes during the last year

In the last year, producer prices, that is producer prices on the domestic and export markets together, have increased by 2.3 percent. In the same period, prices on the import market increased by 2.5 percent and the export market increased by 1.5 percent. On the domestic market, prices increased by 3.0 percent. Prices for domestic supply increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

Changes in exchange rates from November to December

An appreciation or depreciation of the Swedish currency has a tendency to lower or raise export and import prices in Swedish Krona. According to Swedish Customs exchange rates, the Swedish Krona depreciated against the against the English Pound by 4.0 percent, against the Danish Krona by 3.5 percent, against the Euro by 3.4 percent and against the American dollar by 3.3 percent. The exchange rate against the Norwegian Krona remained unchanged during the period.

New product classification

SPIN 2015 in the statistical database. Both product classifications will be available during 2017 and 2018. In 2019, price indices will only be available according to SPIN 2015. Users are recommended to start using SPIN 2015 when it is available.
