Costs have increased for all operations, expressed in Swedish kronor (SEK) per inhabitant, compared to the previous year. Care of the elderly and disabled persons has increased the most, or SEK 446 per inhabitant.

Operations that are mainly financed by taxes, actual operations, cost an average of SEK 53 771 per inhabitant in 2013. This is an increase of SEK 1 151 compared with the previous year and corresponds to an increase of 2.2 percent. In terms of SEK per inhabitant, the activity that increased the most is care of the elderly and disabled persons, which increased by SEK 446 over the previous year and amounted to SEK 17 590 per inhabitant.

Education and preschool operations are the two major areas of activities where costs increased. Education costs increased by 1.3 percent or SEK 188 per inhabitant, and preschool operations increased by 2.8 percent or SEK 220 per inhabitant. In 2013, costs per inhabitant for these activities were SEK 15 225 for education and SEK 8 177 for preschool operations.

The share of purchase of activities has been relatively stable compared with the previous year. The two activities that increased their share of purchases were care of the elderly and infrastructure and protection.

Definitions and explanations

The cost is calculated as the gross cost minus internal income minus sales to other municipalities and county councils and is expected to correspond to the municipality's cost for its commitments to municipal inhabitants.

Some of the smallest municipalities are not included in the calculation of the mean values for the entire country.

All amounts are presented in current prices.
