Net trade balance at SEK 11.9 billion in May

In May 2024, Swedish exports of goods amounted to SEK 186.7 billion, while imports of goods amounted to SEK 174.8 billion. As a result, the net trade balance was SEK 11.9 billion.
Foreign trade in goods resulted in a net trade surplus of SEK 11.9 billion in May 2024, according to preliminary calculations. In May 2023, there was a net trade surplus of SEK 0.9 billion.
The value of exports in May 2024 was SEK 186.7 billion, while imports were valued at SEK 174.8 billion. The corresponding values for May 2023 were SEK 179.5 billion for exports and SEK 178.6 billion for imports. Exports of goods have thus increased by 4 percent in value while imports decreased by 2 percent compared with May 2023. The number of weekdays in May 2024 was the same as it was in May 2023.
Trade in goods with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of SEK 30.9 billion, while EU trade resulted in a deficit of SEK 19.0 billion.

Seasonally adjusted, net trade showed a surplus of SEK 8.2 billion in May, compared with a surplus of SEK 6.7 billion in April. The corresponding figure for March was a surplus of SEK 5.5 billion.
Net trade (January – May 2024) showed a surplus of SEK 46.7 billion
During the last five months, the value of exports of goods was unchanged while the value of imports of goods decreased by 2 percent compared with the corresponding period a year ago. Exports were valued at SEK 885.6 billion and imports were valued at SEK 838.9 billion, resulting in a net trade surplus of SEK 46.7 billion for January - May 2024. The corresponding net trade balance for these months one year earlier was a surplus of SEK 26.4 billion.
